Why we love to write about bedding collections
We spend a third of our time sleeping: it is important that it is in good conditions. It is generally recommended to maintain the temperature of the room between 16° and 18°. As far as bedding is concerned, however, it must allow the body to benefit from a constant temperature. A good quilt provides beneficial thermoregulation. To help you make the best purchase, we like to make comparisons of numerous studies and test results. We invite you to take a look at our articles with comparison table without further delay, to ensure you have a good night’s sleep!
Origins of the quilt name in French
Etymologically, quilt in French (edredon) comes from the Scandinavian word “ederdun”, which means eiderdown. The eider is a duck from cold countries, whose down has high thermal properties. For a long time, people have had the idea of enclosing it in skins or layers of textile to protect themselves from the cold. Its most known form is that of a square or rectangle of quilted fabric, placed on the bed, without overhangs.
It was used as a complement to sheets and blankets when houses were not heated at night. Nowadays, it can be found in several forms, either as a decorative plaid, or as a wrap-around blanket or even as a comforter, with drooping edges.
